MBA programs provide a variety of courses from accounting to marketing, which can significantly expand your knowledge of business. They provide you with a broad set of skills that can help you to not only understand how a business is run, but how to develop solutions to everyday business challenges.
Most MBA programs offer a variety of tracks or concentrations. An MBA track/concentration allows you to select courses in a specific subject that will explore that area more than traditional classes. For example, if you pursue a track/concentration in marketing you might take a class in consumer behavior or product lifecycles; whereas these topics would traditionally be covered more broadly within the MBA curriculum.

Master of science programs are designed to focus on a specific discipline of business, such as accounting or management. These programs differ from the MBA in that they provide a variety of in-depth courses surrounding one subject. For instance, a Master of Science in Management will require courses such as human resource management, leadership, strategic management, organizational behavior, etc. A finance program may require courses such as capital management, investments, macro/micro economics, etc.

Before Choosing Your Degree Program Consider...
- Starting salaries of graduates
- Supply and demand for jobs in
your field
- Organizations that you are interested in working for that
require in-depth expertise in certain areas; such as an accounting firm
- Geographical areas where you wish to begin your career or
reside and whether or not your field is highly demanded in these
locations
If you would rather specialize in a particular subject area of business, such as accounting or finance, then a specialized master's degree in business is the way to go. This type of degree can help make you an expert in a specific field and provides an in-depth exploration of the subject matter. For example, if you are currently an accountant or financial analyst and wish to become a CFO one day, a Master in Finance could be very useful.
