There are many different bachelor’s degree programs in business—some are more traditional and others are innovative combinations of different subjects and teaching methods. Some of the most common bachelor’s degree programs in business are in:
– Accounting/Audit/Tax
– Business Administration
– Entrepreneurship
– Finance
– International Business/Markets
– Management/Human Resources
– Marketing/Consumer Behavior
Before you choose a degree program, think about what really interests you. Even though, changing your major is an option, you don’t want to take a lot of classes in a subject that will not count toward graduation.
When selecting your major, consider...
– Starting salaries of graduates
How much can you expect to make with the degree you want? Do your homework on websites such as the US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational
Outlook Handbook.
– Companies where you want to work and the majors they prefer
Does the company prefer graduates with certain degrees? Don’t be afraid to call their human resource department and ask. And, while you have them on the phone, ask about internship opportunities!
– Geographical areas where you wish to begin your career
Do you have to live in Tokyo or Miami? If so, look at the AACSB-accredited schools in those areas. Going to school in the area you want to start your career is a good choice.
– What degree program will get you a job heading down your dream career path?
So, you want to be in charge of a huge manufacturing plant? Look into degree programs in industrial management or supply-chain management. The point, set yourself up to be qualified for the job you want in
the future.
– What is the long-term outlook for jobs in your favorite subject?
A degree in something out of the ordinary might sound great, but will it provide you with a job after graduation and/or a career path? Or, is this a field that is declining?
